The short version
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and carries no advertising or tracking scripts. It does not build a profile of you, and it has nothing to sell to anyone who would want one. The only information that reaches Silent Investigative is what you deliberately send.
What the site collects automatically
Nothing, directly. There is no analytics package, no tag manager, no pixel, no session recording, and no cookie set by this site.
Indirectly, through the host. The web host that serves these pages keeps standard server logs — IP address, timestamp, page requested, browser user-agent — as every web server does. These logs exist for security and abuse prevention, are retained for a short period by the host, and are not reviewed, exported, or combined with anything else by Silent Investigative.
Web fonts. Typefaces on this site are requested from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers and Google can see the IP address making it. If that matters for your situation, use a browser that blocks third-party requests, or reach out by Signal instead of visiting again.
What you send on purpose
The tip form
Submissions from the form on the home page are delivered by a third-party form processor, which records the submission contents, the time, and the IP address of the submitting device, and retains them on its own servers under its own policy. Submissions are forwarded to a Silent Investigative mailbox.
The form asks for a reply address as an optional field. Leaving it blank is a supported way to use the form. Nothing in the form requires your real name.
Email you send arrives with whatever your provider attaches to it, typically including your address and often your IP. Email is currently the only direct channel — encrypted channels are being set up and are not yet available. See Secure contact before sending anything sensitive.
How long things are kept
Correspondence and case material are retained while a matter is open and for a limited period afterward, both to answer follow-up questions and because a referral to an oversight body may need supporting material later. Material relating to a matter under active independent review is retained until that review closes.
Submissions that do not become cases are deleted on a periodic basis. If you want something you sent deleted sooner, ask — and say enough about the message for it to be found, without repeating anything sensitive.
Who else sees it
Source identity is not shared with subjects of research, with clients, or with the public.
Case findings may be shared with an oversight body, regulator, law-enforcement agency, or news organization where the evidence establishes a documented basis for further inquiry. Where that happens, source identity is withheld to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Service providers necessarily handle data in the course of delivering it — the web host, the form processor, and the email provider. They act as processors, not as recipients of research material.
Information may be disclosed where disclosure is compelled by a valid subpoena, court order, or other legal process. Silent Investigative is not a law firm and cannot assert attorney–client privilege on your behalf; reporter's-privilege protections vary by jurisdiction and have limits.
Information about third parties
Research necessarily involves information about people and organizations who did not submit it — that is what public-record research is. That information comes from public records, public filings, and lawfully accessible sources. It is used for journalism and research in the public interest, is tied to the source it came from, and is not compiled into consumer reports.
Silent Investigative is not a consumer-reporting agency, and its research is not offered for employment, housing, credit, insurance, tenant screening, or similar eligibility decisions covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act or state equivalents.
Your choices
- You can use the site without submitting anything.
- You can submit a tip without giving a name or a reply address.
- You can ask what is held about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, at contact@silentinvestigative.com. Requests are honored where the law requires it and, in most cases, where it merely permits it. Requests to delete research material about a subject of an open inquiry are an exception, for obvious reasons.
- If a published finding about you is wrong, say so and point to the record. Corrections are made promptly and marked as corrections rather than quietly edited.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify, by design.
